Frances Moore Lappé became a public figure upon the
release of the now classic Diet for a Small Planet in 1971. Lappé, a sought-after public speaker,
travels the world addressing the problems of hunger, sustainability, the environment, human rights,
and much, much more. She has appeared as a guest on hundreds of radio and television programs and
her articles and opinion pieces have been published in venues from The New York Times to Reader's
Digest to Harper's. Additionally, she has been profiled in such diverse places as People, The Boston
Globe Magazine, Organic Style, Hope Magazine, Glamour, and The Utne Reader. Lappé has authored or
co-authored 13 books and is the founder of two national organizations, including the 30-year-old
California-based Institute for Food Development Policy, better known as Food First. She is the
recipient of 16 honorary doctoral degrees from distinguished institutions and in 1987 she was
honored with the Right Livelihood Award, often called the "Alternative Nobel."
Jeffrey Perkins is the co-founder of
Curious Minds, a Boston-based network supporting
people to clarify and move into their life’s work. Jeff conducts "Fear Means Go" workshops, based
on ideas in this book, with a diversity of audiences. During the 1990's, Jeff was the Executive
Coordinator for Frances Moore Lappé's Center for Living Democracy. He has worked in various social
change organizations in such fields as citizen democracy, education, and political organizing.
He has his MA in American Studies from the University of Massachusetts Boston and his BA in Peace and
